Altomaxx wins Energy NL’s 2026 Business Growth Award
Newfoundland and Labrador company builds an international business helping energy operators inspect critical assets safely.
ST. JOHN’S, N.L., November 4, 2026 — Altomaxx has received Energy NL’s 2026 Business Growth Award, recognizing the St. John’s company’s expansion from a single drone in 2018 to delivering inspection services for energy projects on five continents.
The company received the honour tonight at Energy NL’s Industry Achievement Awards in St. John’s. With offices across Canada and in Denmark, Ireland and Guyana, Altomaxx has built an international business tackling a critical challenge for energy operators: understanding the condition of their assets without putting people in harm’s way.
Its crews inspect some of the industry’s most difficult and dangerous places to reach, including cargo and ballast tanks aboard ships and offshore platforms. Where conventional inspections require people to enter confined spaces or work at height, Altomaxx deploys drones equipped to collect detailed inspection data. That information helps operators make decisions about maintenance, repairs and the continued safe operation of critical equipment.
Since 2022, Altomaxx crews have completed 753 offshore flights, including 288 inside tanks, with zero incidents. The company holds certifications from DNV and Lloyd’s Register, along with recognition from ABS, for remote inspections of vessels and floating platforms. Its capabilities include using drones equipped with ultrasonic sensors to measure steel thickness.
“We started with one drone and a simple idea: inspection only creates value when the data can be trusted and nobody gets hurt collecting it,” said Steve Priestley, co-founder and chief operating officer of Altomaxx. “This award belongs to our crews. Most of them trained at College of the North Atlantic, the Marine Institute and Memorial University, and now they’re doing this work around the world.”
“The evolution of Altomaxx is extraordinary,” said Charlene Johnson, Energy NL CEO. “While deeply rooted in Newfoundland and Labrador, Altomaxx has grown and diversified to be an international leader of inspection services and drone certification. Altomaxx is a true example of taking an idea and turning it into a respected and in-demand service, and an extremely worthy recipient of the Energy NL Business Growth Award.”
